As suggested by the American Dental Association, patients of any age should receive a dental exam two times a year at the minimum. Dental examinations are essential to your oral and overall health.
Our team will inspect each tooth for tooth decay, cavities, plaque buildup, and fractures. We will also check the supporting tissues and the inside of your mouth for any signs of gum disease.
After a thorough assessment of your teeth and mouth, we will perform an oral cancer screening and check your temporomandibular joint (TMJ) for temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD).
X-ray images will be taken to examine your oral health. This technology helps us detect abnormal lesions, bone-loss, wisdom tooth development and other issues we may not be able to see otherwise. We don’t require X-rays at each visit but should receive them once yearly and prior to any oral treatment.
Dr. Becvar or one of his staff members will work closely with you to determine a treatment plan specific to your needs. We want our patients to be informed every step of their treatment process. We encourage open communication so our patients know what to expect before, during, and after their procedure.
Even patients with exceptional oral hygiene are suggested to receive a dental cleaning twice a year. At-home care alone is not enough to protect your teeth from tooth decay, cavities, and potentially severe diseases like periodontitis.
Professional cleanings are encouraged to prevent or slow the process of gingivitis (gum disease), dental decay, and periodontitis (bone loss). It is crucial to your oral hygiene to brush at least two times a day and to floss once in addition to staying hydrated. Try to avoid sugary and bright drinks and food and tobacco products as they can stain and accelerate issues like tooth decay.
